Nicholls used three runs on seven hits to stun No. 10 Southern Miss 3-2 in nonconference play Wednesday night at Pete Taylor Park.
The loss ends an 11-game win streak by the Golden Eagles dating back to the second game of the season.
“Credit to Nicholls, they earned that win,” Southern Miss head coach Christian Ostrander said after the game. “I thought their pitchers did a tremendous job of mixing and keeping our guys in between.”
The win is the third for Nicholls in the last four meetings with the Golden Eagles.

It’s ‘tater planting time. And onions, edible pod and English peas, lettuces, and cabbage, all which grow and produce best this time of year and are harvested in plenty of time to set out tomatoes, peppers, squash, and basil.
I grow most of my veggies in large pots or a small raised bed, which warms early and is easy to monitor water, fertilizer, and cover if need during a sudden freeze.

Readers may recall that Kelley Williams and I have written extensively about all the new Mississippi data centers, especially the huge one in Madison. Our beef is that these data centers will consume more electricity than all the other grid customers combined. Who is going to pay for this?

SCOOBA, Miss. — Pitching prevailed as the No. 2 Pearl River baseball team went 2-0 on the road, defeating East Mississippi 9-5 and Southwest 7-4.
"(Tanner) Busby stepped up on the mound on such short notice for us," said head coach Michael Avalon. "I was really proud of him taking the baseball and wanting the baseball. He was exactly what we needed. He gave a good start and let us get our feet under us. (JP) Abt was able to do the same thing in game two. You saw a little more confidence from Abt today on the mound."

The morning of January 10, 1975, began as an unseasonably warm, humid, and gloomy winter’s day. At 7:30 a.m., a school bus loaded with energetic and loud third graders departed Otken Elementary in McComb. I rode near the back of the bus wearing a light windbreaker and quietly hummed Elvis Presley songs. My dad, a huge Elvis fan, had bought most of the King’s 45s as a teenager. He packed them away after marriage until I found them and endlessly played his Sun and RCA label records on my portable box turntable.

Earlier this year, colleges in no income tax states used that as a selling point when trying to snag players in the transfer portal. Mississippi lawmakers say the Magnolia State needs to remain competitive in that arena.
In this new era of college football so heavily focused on the almighty dollar, schools in states with no income tax have sought to use that to their benefit when recruiting players.

Below is a political opinion column by Roger Wicker:
U.S. Senator Roger Wicker carries peace through strength message to Europe.
The tyrants in China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran are on the move, and their aggression makes at least one thing clear: America needs strong, reliable friends. In February, I traveled to Europe to bring a message to our most important allies. In this increasingly dangerous world, the nations of Europe and North America must stand united.
