Oak Grove bounces back from first loss of season, wins Battle for the ‘Burg 89-68

Oak Grove had one goal in mind as it faced off against its rival Hattiesburg in the classic Battle of the ‘Burg matchup on Tuesday night.

That goal was to ensure that the Warriors had not lost their momentum on the season, which Oak Grove proved was not the case as they handed the Tigers an 89-68 loss.

Hattiesburg won its third consecutive game and stayed undefeated in region play with a dominating 78-36 win over Pearl River Central.

The Tigers were able to spend a week preparing for the Blue Devils after their Tuesday game was canceled.

Hattiesburg continues to find its groove at the start of region play. The Lady Tigers stayed undefeated on Friday after defeating Pearl River Central 50-27.

“It’s a good win for us in a division game,” Hattiesburg coach Caronica Jackson said. “That puts us at 3-0 in the first half (of region play), so I’m proud of that.”

SUMRALL – For most teams, losing six seniors that made a second-round playoff appearance would make for quite a headache to replace.

In addition to the loss of a successful senior class, the Sumrall girls' soccer team had to find a way to replace Caragan Childs, who in four years scored 141 goals.
