No. 2 Pearl River baseball paired dominant pitching with an explosive offensive showing Friday, rolling past Itawamba for a doubleheader sweep, 11-0 in seven innings and 11-3.
"They're tough throughout the lineup. We pitched well, hit well, and the wind helped us out a little bit today. I love coach (Slater) Lott — this was not a day I looked forward to, competing against him. They're just as dangerous as anyone in our league down the stretch. I'm glad we don't have to face them again."

BRANDON — A line up change ended up being the difference.
Behind the hitting of E.J. Booth and K.J. Roberts, Oak Grove held off Brandon 11-8 in a key Region 3-7A contest at Mark Vinson Field on Friday night.
“Just proud of our guys. A couple of bad things happened and we just had to keep playing and our guys responded the right way and swung the bats really good,” said Oak Grove coach Chris McCardle. “Brandon wasn’t going to quit, they’ve got hitters up and down their lineup and glad we hung on and finished it off.”

Southern Miss football’s first spring scrimmage looked nothing like what you might expect from a team that is nearly 90% new.
Going in, the assumptions and thoughts were pretty much expected: With so many new faces and only five practices together, the first live 11 on 11 work would be sloppy. There would be a plethora of missed assignments, perhaps some procedural penalties and turnovers, which all generally define spring anyway, while adding on top of that the newness of head coach Blake Anderson’s roster.
