In recognition of the Semiquincentennial of America’s Independence on July 4, the Thomas Rodney Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution continues its yearlong celebration to honor our patriot ancestors. During the weeks and months leading to America’s 250th Birthday, chapter members are spotlighting the service of our Revolutionary War ancestors. This week, we honor the service of John Lott, Revolutionary Patriot Ancestor of chapter member Tisha Vaughan.

Swab Event volunteers with Cate: Becky Dees, Olivia Swindle, Lainey Williams, Cate Hargett, Chloe Boone, Hailey Burton - organizer, Megan Villegas , Cadence Steed and Makenna Kendall.
Hailey Burton organized a swab event in honor of Cate Hargett. Cate is an 11-year-old student at Pillow Academy and is in bone marrow failure and desperately needs a match. Nineteen people were able to successfully complete their swab packets at the event. Many more people stopped by but were not able to swab because they were not in the 18–35 age range. First responders had contained 90% of Carroll County’s Big Hungry Fire as of Tuesday after deploying helicopters over the weekend to perform water drops.
Air support, provided by the U.S. Forest Service, has since ended, but ground crews with the Mississippi Forestry Commission and Carroll County fire services are still present to clear the area of any debris and brush that could fuel the fire. Meanwhile, the county remains under a burn ban through April 7.

I have been a Southern Baptist for as many years as I am old and it’s just way too late to change my road now. My mother and daddy were Baptist but she called herself a “hard-shelled” Baptist. I was raised in one of these churches and they were somewhat of different beliefs and actions than what I have grown accustomed to.

A new experience for me!
The cheer competition, Deep South Eras Cheer!, was in New Orleans in a huge venue: spotlights, colored lights, big music, projection screens and excited announcers!
Plus, all the cheer girls of all ages from little to teens; their mom’s armed with hair spray, glitter, and lipstick; and dad’s- some dressed in cheer t-shirts and carrying bags and younger children. Also, we grandmas were bringing up the rear and giving lots of encouragement to our little contestants.

Of the several repetitive garden chores I was responsible for as a teenager are never-ending Sisyphean tasks I swore, I would not do when I grew up, three in particular irritated me: Mowing grass, hoeing garden rows, and shlepping potted plants indoors and out.

This week is EASTER, and it’s one of my favorite holidays because I love any holiday we get to celebrate the Savior. On Easter Sunday, you will worship, eat, and take cute pictures, but probably the most important thing and the thing that's most exciting is the egg hunt. Everybody loves an egg hunt because it never fails that there are a few eggs with money. You try your hardest to be the lucky one to find one, and if you do, you are excited! I want you to think about the excitement that you have when you open the egg with money and multiply that by 100.

Southern Dish Host Filming equipment for “Southern Dish” points toward the series’ host, Lydia Chassaniol of Winona.
For well over a year, state Sen. Lydia Chassaniol of Winona and a Mississippi Public Broadcasting film crew have been crisscrossing the state with a delectable purpose.
That is to create a new TV series that will engage the state’s would-be visitors and its residents by introducing them to restaurants and their chefs statewide in order to tell Mississippi’s story through their food.
The result is MPB’s new series, “Southern Dish.” Chassaniol, had the idea for the series, raised the money to fund it and serves as its host.

I fell into this question after reading Hegseth’s latest militant prayer and then about the trove of Klan artifacts uncovered at the Mississippi Department of Public Safety as it prepared to relocate. “Imagine if you will…” is how Rod Serling introduced each surreal episode of the popular Twilight Zone TV series years ago. It seems a good way to frame the recent data dump on the Jackson City Council by JXN Water’s “CEO” Judge.
The data were detailed compilations of the problems, mismanagement, customer abuses, and costs the CEO Judge and his Water Czar Chief Operating Officer have observed during their three year tenures — but have not fixed. The dump was the Judge’s way of saying: “No Mas. I’ve had enough. I’m giving the ball to the City Council.”
