It is pruning time for shrub roses, hydrangeas, gardenias, and other summer-blooming shrubs. And yes, even crape myrtles and vitex, for those who choose to do so.
In fact, last week somebody beat me to a crape myrtle tree I harvest every year for material to maintain a woven-wattle herb border at the Ag Museum in Jackson. I expertly pollard the tree by pruning long, limber stems back to thick knobs.

Mumbo jumbo is often used as a pejorative ("legal mumbo jumbo") or term meant to imply that the terms around it are nonsensical. However, in today's media parlance, Ishmael Reed's 1972 novel is largely about separating the signal from the noise.

Mississippi Treasurer David McRae is the 55th Treasurer for the State of Mississippi. In this role, he helps manage the state’s cash flow, oversees College and Career Savings Mississippi, and has returned more than $150 million in unclaimed money to Mississippians. For more information, visit Treasury.MS.gov.
For generations, Americans have believed that access to the financial system is a basic part of participating in modern life. You work hard, you play by the rules, and you expect a bank to treat you fairly. Unfortunately, that promise has been quietly eroding, and Mississippians are right to be concerned.

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — No. 2 Pearl River baseball shook off a tough loss in the opener by tossing a three-hit shutout in the nightcap to split the day against UA Rich Mountain, falling 10-6 and winning 5-0.
"We can learn a lot from what they did today — hitting the baseball to the middle of the field," head coach Michael Avalon said. "We need to see that approach and buy into it. It was a team effort to lose the first game, but it was also a team effort to win the second. We just need to make some adjustments."

The Lenten Season has begun. As we’ve approached this season, I’ve used some time to reflect on some impactful parables and verses that have been highlighted in recent Christian liturgy. Some touch on things like fortitude and temperance while others speak to notions of discipline and justice, but the passages that have resonated the most deal with charity, unity, mercy, and grace.
