Carroll Academy picked up wins on Monday and Tuesday on the baseball diamond but lost its last game of the week at Kirk Academy.
The Rebels defeated Delta Academy 17-4 last Monday, outhitting the Raiders 9-2 and taking advantage of three defensive errors and 11 walks issued by Delta pitching.
Hayes White (1-1) got the win on the mound, yielding all four runs on two hits, walking four and fanning three.
He had an RBI and scored two runs on offense.

The J.Z. George girls fast-pitch softball team extended its winning streak to five with a sweep of its three opponents last week.
The Lady Jags began the week with a 17-2 victory at Leake Central Monday. J.Z. George scored nine runs in the first, one in the second, five in the third and two in the fourth. Leake scored one run each in the second and third innings.
Saralyn Roberts got the win in the circle, allowing both runs on one hit, striking out eight. She had a single and double, driving in two runs.

The Winona High School girls fast-pitch softball team slid to 7-3 on the season with a pair of losses last week.
The Lady Tigers lost to Choctaw County 26-9 on Tuesday. No other details were available.
Winona played at French Camp Academy Friday, falling 8-6. The Lady Tigers made four errors on defense and were outhit 8-5.
Lindsey Berryhill (6-3) took the loss in the circle, as she went six innings, allowing eight runs (four earned) on eight hits, walking two and fanning three.

The J.Z. George baseball team started its spring break with a 15-0 loss to Calhoun Academy in the Kirk Academy Tournament in Grenada Monday.
Calhoun plated six runs each in the first and third frames and three in the second. Calhoun outhit J.Z. George 7-1, and the Jags made eight defensive errors.
Hayden Brown had a single for the lone hit. Kaleb Mulvihill (1-1) took the loss, as he went all three innings, walking five and fanning two.
The Jaguars played Winona Christian School and Delta Academy Wednesday at the tournament.

The Winona High School baseball team continued to struggle, as the Tigers lost two games last week on the diamond.
The Tigers started the week with a 13-0 loss to Choctaw County Monday. Choctaw outhit Winona 8-4 and took advantage of four errors and eight walks issued by Tiger pitching.
Alejandro White (0-2) suffered the loss, going two innings, giving up seven runs on three hits, walking six and fanning three. Jayvien Flowers went one inning, allowing six runs on five hits, walking two. Tommarion Brown went one inning, fanning one.

The Winona High School tennis team opened region play with a 6-1 win over Noxubee County last Thursday at Noxubee.
Leo Guzman won his boys singles match 6-1, 6-2 over Noxubee’s John Lee, and the No. 1 boys doubles team of Ben Rosamond and Brayden Flowers defeated Byron and Mario Sanders 6-2, 6-2. In No. 2 boys doubles, Gunner
Wilkes and Ethan Green beat Noxubee’s Ashton Barber and Maury Austin 6-1, 6-0.
In No. 1 girls doubles, Marlee Wilkes and Eden Leech defeated Jakhya Howard and Summer Shanklin 6-0, 6-0.

Last Tuesday, March 4 the Vaiden Legends Basketball Team headed to Jackson to participate in a district tournament. In Jackson, the locally established youth sports team participated in the first round of playoff games.
"It's a great thing they're doing down in Jackson with youth sports." Vaiden Legends Coach Jermarcus Williams stated.

Students in the K2 class enjoyed a memorable surprise this week as part of the school’s celebration of Dr. Seuss Week. Mrs. Shonni Montgomery and Mrs. Rachel Latham paid a special visit to the classroom for story time, bringing along a very special guest—a baby lamb.
The visit gave students the chance to experience storytelling in a unique and exciting way. As the class gathered to listen, the baby lamb quickly became the star of the morning, capturing the children’s attention and sparking curiosity and excitement.

Winona Christian School is proud to announce that Joe Reed Tompkins has been named STAR Student for the 2025-2026 school year by the Mississippi Business Alliance Foundation.
Joe Reed will be acknowledged among the over 300 STAR Students in Mississippi for their academic achievements. Star Students are selected on the basis of academic excellence. Both American College Test scores and scholastic averages are compared to determine the school’s STAR Student. The STAR program encourages and promotes academic achievement among Mississippi’s high school seniors.

In our recovery efforts from the 2026 ice storm, we have been in contact with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA). I, along with Carroll County Chancery Clerk Casey Carpenter, have meetings scheduled for next week on our documentation from the county on our recovery efforts. I’m reminded how many times over the years we have worked with state and federal officials to bring funding to Carroll County.

Carroll County Republican and Democratic Party officials met Wednesday morning at the Carroll County Courthouse in Vaiden to certify the Tuesday primary election.
“We finished verifying the affidavit ballots and certified the totals of both the United States Senate and Second Congressional District primary races. The ballot will now be set for the November 3 General Election.” said North Carrollton Mayor Ken Strachan who is the Carroll County Republican Executive Committee Chairman.

Coaches work in practice every day on defense and talk about making the routine plays – not giving good teams extra outs in any inning.
Last Friday, the Winona Christian Stars varsity baseball team hosted Class AAAA power Starkville Academy, looking to avenge an 11-1 road loss on Feb. 23. Once again, the Stars struggled defensively with four unearned runs in losing a 7-2 decision to the Volunteers.
With the loss, the Stars dropped to 3-2 on the season.

STATE FAIRGROUNDS, Miss. – This year, 1,152 4-H and FFA members from across Mississippi participated in the Dixie National Junior Round-Up Livestock Shows, exhibiting 1,759 head of livestock. These students competed for the opportunity to participate in the 57th annual Sale of Junior Champions. The Sale of Junior Champions, one of the highlight events of the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo, is an auction where livestock exhibitors winning Champion and Reserve Champion in the Junior Round Up Market Divisions sell their prizewinning animals and where scholarships are awarded.
