Sumrall High School’s Traces of Blue chorus is making its final fundraising push this week before its performances with the world-famous Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall and at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The girls will perform a preview of the New York City trip Thursday night, Nov. 29, during a Christmas Dessert Concert and Silent Auction fundraiser.
The girls of Traces of Blue will be providing most of the desserts for the event.
With a $15 ticket, SHS supporters can attend the 6:30 p.m. fundraiser at Dogwood Venue, 444 Hwy. 589 in Sumrall. Tickets can be purchased from any Traces of Blue member or the high school. Call Susan at (601) 270-6893 for tickets and more information.
Fifteen students will be among the 50 people who will make the trip to New York from Dec. 15-20. Several administrators, other family, and friends will accompany the Traces of Blue troupe.
Jeffrey Coulter, SHS choral director, said the special trip is important to the Traces of Blue.
“It is my hope that this will be a life-changing experience as they perform on two of the most world-renowned stages,” he said. “This trip gives them the opportunity to see the world outside of their comfort zone, to meet others, to see art, music, architecture, and history in a way only possible in New York.”
The performance at St. Patrick’s Cathedral is scheduled for 1:45 p.m. Dec. 17 and will highlight sacred Christmas selections. At 8 p.m. Dec. 19, Traces of Blue will be the opening act for the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in front of a sold-out audience of more than 6,000 people.
The Sumrall High School girls have been raising money since May for the trip, which will cost each student $1,600. More than 75 percent of the funds have been raised.
