ELLISVILLE – No. 1 ranked Jones County improved to 6-0 with two wins over Mineral Area College (Missouri) here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, capped by a 3-run home run by Luke Hudson (Presbyterian Christian School), and defeated the Cardinals 12-1 in the opener. In game two, the Bobcats blanked the Cardinals, 5-0.
The Bobcats go on the road to face Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday.
The Cardinals play Tuesday at Williams Baptist College in Arkansas.

Will Freeman (Semmes, Alabama) went all five innings and got the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed only two hits, walked one and struck out six.
Jones took a 1-0 lead in the first when Robbie Woody (Madison Central reached on a two-base throwing error. He was sacrificed to third by Trace Henry (Mooreville), never stopped running on the play and beat the throw home.
After Trent Pobst tied it with a home run in the second, JCJC went up 3-1 in the third. Woody walked, stole second, went to third on an error and scored on a single by Henry. After Henry stole second and third, Stephen Matthews (Tupelo) singled him home.
The Bobcats made it 4-1 in the fourth when Miguel Morgan (South Jones) reached on an infield single and later scored on a passed ball.
In the fifth, Cooper Brune (Ocean Springs) had an RBI single and Woody had a two-run double. Hudson blasted his second home run of the year over the rightfield wall, scoring Henry, who had been hit by a pitch, and Luther Woullard (D’Iberville), who had singled.
Hudson homered and singled twice for Jones. Woody had a double with Henry, Woullard, Matthews, Luke McKenzie (Columbia Academy), Morgan and Brune adding singles.
Pobst homered and Caleb Feuerstake singled for Mineral Area.
Brendan Anderson went the first 3.1 innings for the Cardinals and was charged with the loss. Kollin Stone pitched 1.1 innings and Brent Busenbark pitched to two batters.

Brune went the first six innings and got the win.
He allowed no runs, two hits, walked one and struck out six. Will Hicks (Germantown) pitched a perfect seventh inning and notched a strikeout.
JCJC went up 1-0 in the second when Hudson Harris (West Jones) led off with a double into the leftfield corner. Morgan walked and Brandon Hale (Pontotoc) was hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Woody’s sacrifice fly to right drove in Harris.
Woullard led off the second with a double. He stole third and scored when the ball was thrown into leftfield.
Jake Mason (West Lauderdale) led off the fourth inning by being hit by a pitch and Morgan singled. Woody’s triple to left drove them home and Henry’s ground out scored Woody.
Woullard doubled twice for Jones, Woody tripled, Harris doubled and Morgan singled.
Pobst and John Benevolent each doubled for Mineral Area.
Luis Acuna, the first of four Cardinal pitchers, went three innings and was tagged with the loss.
Mineral Area falls to 0-7 on the season.
