Cora Ondean Webb (93) passed from her earthly bonds on June 24, 2022. Burial is in Oral Cemetery.
She was born on May 30, 1929, in Lamar County to Porter Monroe and Martha Mavis Hudson, the eldest of seven children.
She is predeceased by her husband, Earl Ray Webb and sisters, Linda Simmons and Jearlyn Akers.
Ondean graduated early from Sumrall High School during the war years and worked in a garment factory for one week before she declared, “I’m going to college.” She worked several jobs on the PRCC campus and graduated in one year. She began teaching elementary school in Lamar County. Ondean married Earl Ray Webb in August of 1950 and were married for 63 years. In 1952 they welcomed their only child, Jenny Ann. Ondean finished her science and home economics degree at Mississippi Southern College (now USM) and taught at Bassfield High School. In 1956, Ondean, Earl and Jenny moved to Jackson where Ondean taught at Hardy Junior High School and later at Siwell Rd. Junior High School.
She was known for her hospitality and served as the Church Hostess for both her church in Jackson and First Baptist Church in Sumrall. Additionally, she taught a ladies Bible Study class for over 50 years. She always put her Lord first, her family second and her church always played an important role in her life. Ondean was a wonderful seamstress and cook.
She was a proud grandmother to Brad Thames (Mandy) of Thompson Station, TN, Mandy Thames Stanley (Chuck) of Sumrall, and Tyler Thames (Keshya) of Hernando. Her great grandchildren were her pride and joy. They are Austin Lewis, Shelby Thames, Weston Thames, Jenna Kate Stanley, and Willow Reagan Thames. Ondean is also survived by her daughter, Jenny, and husband, Don Thames of Sumrall; three brothers, Woodley Hudson, Joey Hudson, and Porter Hudson, Jr. and one sister, Betty Ann Waits.
