Two of the best soccer programs in the state collided Monday night, as Brandon traveled to Oak Grove for a pair of games. The Lady Bulldogs scored the lone goal of the match halfway through the second half to beat the Oak Grove girls 1-0, then the Brandon boys and Warriors tied 0-0 in the nightcap.

The matchup for the state championship in Mississippi’s largest classification has been set. It features a team that has been one of the favorites to come out of the north half all season, and a team in the south that wasn’t picked by many – if any – to make it this far.
When the Horn Lake seniors were freshmen, the Eagles were coming off a 2-10 season. Before that, they were 9-24 in Brad Boyette’s first three seasons as head coach at the school. As the seniors have gotten older, the Horn Lake Eagles have gotten better.
The Oak Grove Warriors’ rushing attack got a boost when the postseason started three weeks ago.
Oak Grove was already averaging 216 yards on the ground per game, but in the last three weeks, it’s pushed its 14-game average to 232 a game. In the three playoff games, the Warriors are rushing for an average of 290 yards per game, too.
