At the meeting of the Forrest County supervisors on Monday, District 5 Supervisor Chris Bowen expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their help in procuring a new fire engine for the Carnes Volunteer Fire Department.
The engine helps maintain the area insurance rating of a seven, which lowers insurance and property tax rates.
“We don’t often get to talk about our individual districts because we try to operate as a collective,” said Bowen. “A large geographical portion of District 5 is a breadbasket. There is a bustling lumber industry. They produce a lot of oil and gas. They farm. When we are able to provide a fire engine like we did, it means the world to those folks.”
The board formally dedicated the new engine at the meeting and authorized the check for the final payment.
