With only one day left to qualify for the Aug. 6 primary election, the ballot looks to be a crowed one, with several candidates putting their name in the hat for county and statewide elections.
Candidates for county office register with the circuit clerk’s office in their respective counties, while Independent statewide candidates register with Mississippi Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann’s office.
Partisan statewide candidates register with their state party, such as the Mississippi Republican Party. However, the Mississippi Democratic Party has chosen not to disclose its candidates until qualifying deadline and officials from that office did not return calls for a candidate list.
