The 6th Annual Piney Woods Picnic is scheduled for Sept 12-15 at the Elks Lake Music Park. This four-day music festival features Camping, RV space, art, food and beverage and of course, lots of great music.
The efforts by the group have raised money for the Nature Conservancy and the Land Trust for the Mississipi Coastal Plains in order to preserve the Pascagoula River Basin. This is the largest river basin in the “lower 48” unchanged by man.
The region is also home to great music and the picnic highlight this fact every September.
A highlight of this year’s picnic is Sumrall native, Tom “Bones” Malone, an American jazz musician, arranger, and producer.
Malone specializes in trombone but also plays trumpet, tuba, various saxophones, clarinets, flutes, piccolo, and other instruments.
He is famous for being a member of The Blues Brothers band, Saturday Night Live Band (served as leader of the band from 1981 to 1985), and a member of the CBS Orchestra, the house band for the Late Show with David Letterman.
Other Pine Belt favorites will also be on the schedule.
