Oak Grove woman questioned in shooting death

A 42-year-old Oak Grove woman was being held for questioning Wed-nesday morning after a 42-year-old man died from a gunshot wound to the chest, Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said.

Rigel said law enforcement officials received a 911 emergency call a little after 7 a.m. Wednesday in connection with a shooting on Summer Oaks Road. When deputies arrived, they discovered a 42-year-old man had been shot in the chest. He was transported to Forrest General Hospital, where he later died, Rigel said.

“There was a 42-year-old homeowner at the scene that we are holding for questioning,” he said. “A weapon was found at the scene.”

Rigel said the death is being ruled a homicide depending on the result of the current investigation.

“It could have been the result of a domestic disturbance,” he said. “After we get more facts today, we will decide whether we will charge her with anything or leave that up to a grand jury.”
