A restaurant in Purvis suffered heavy damage after a fire broke out on the premises late last weekend.
Lamar County Fire Coordinator Kyle Hill said firefighters responded at approximately 11 p.m. July 7 to Milano’s Pizza and Pasta, at 176 Shelby Speights Drive. Upon arriving, officials observed heavy smoke coming from Milano’s, as well as from the adjacent Stonehouse Restaurant.
“The investigation showed the fire was contained to the Milano’s Pizza restaurant, and it appears to be basically in the ceiling of the restaurant,” Hill said. “We don’t have a cause as of yet.
“The building is still standing and structurally sound. But those things have drop ceilings in them, so there’s some damage to the ceiling and the structure of the wall and things like that. There’s heavy heat and smoke damage to the furnishings of the building – tables, chairs, pictures and so forth.”
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Crews from the Southeast Lamar, Southwest Lamar, Northeast Lamar and Oak Grove fire departments responded to the fire.
“From the very beginning, we poured our hearts into this place,” reads a July 8 post on Milano’s Facebook page. “We are deeply grateful to the Lamar County Fire Department and Rescue team for their heroic efforts in battling the blaze. We also want to extend our thoughts and prayers to our friendly neighbors at the Stonehouse, who suffered smoke damage from the fire.
“We thank each of you for your prayers and support during this difficult time. With faith and determination, we will rebuild and continue to serve you, whether here or at a new location in Purvis. God bless you all, and thank you for standing with us.”
