One man is dead after being shot while allegedly forcing his way into his ex-girlfriend’s home in Petal.
Petal Police Chief Matthew Hiatt said officers received a call at approximately 3:15 a.m. July 5 from a woman who said her ex-boyfriend was banging on the door of her home on West 10th Avenue.
Soon after the call was made, the man forced his way inside the residence, at which point an adult male inside the home shot him with a firearm. The ex-boyfriend was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem identified the deceased as 27-year-old Burnell Gould of Hattiesburg.
Hiatt said no arrests had been made as of the afternoon of July 5.
