Former Oak Grove standout Tyson Keys is heading to Alcorn State to close out his collegiate career.
“They actually drove up to practice to offer me,” Keys said. “From the first time that I spoke to the offensive coordinator and the receivers coach, everybody seemed excited about me.
“The seemed the most family-oriented. I’m just proud to be a part of the SWAC nation.”
Keys, who signed with Northwest Mississippi CC out of high school, made 14 catches for 181 yards and one touchdown in his career.
“It was definitely beneficial,” Keys said. “I matured a lot being up there. I feel like if you can survive JUCO football, then there is no league in college sports that you can’t thrive in.”
In addition, Keys helped the Rangers win two MACCC championships and a national championship. In the 2020 fall season, Keys earned Third Team Fall All-American honors from JCGridiron.com.
“I’ve made a lot of bonds and a lot of friends that I’ll never forget,” Keys said. “There were a lot of things I learned there like hard work and improved my motivation and determination to be great.”
In his senior year at Oak Grove, Keys made 18 catches for 282 yards and seven touchdowns and helped the Warriors appear in the state championship game.
“It’s definitely refreshing (to sign with a four-year program), especially coming out of high school and feeling like you should be playing at a four year and seeing all these other guys on TV that you played against,” Keys said. “Whatever the case, maybe it's definitely refreshing. I’m just excited and ready to get to work.”
