A Hattiesburg man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting another man in the face during a recent altercation on Martin Luther King Avenue in Hattiesburg.
Tate Rutland, public information officer with the Hattiesburg Police Department, said officers responded at approximately 11:30 p.m. April 21 to a call of a shooting in the 200 block of the avenue. After arriving at the scene, police determined there had been an altercation between a group of individuals, during which a shot from a firearm struck a man in the face.
The day after the shooting, 24-year-old Damond Harvey of Hattiesburg was taken into custody and charged with one count of attempted murder for his alleged involvement in the incident. Harvey was booked into the Forrest County Correctional Facility; according to the website for the Forrest County Sherriff’s Office, he remained incarcerated there as of April 22.
The victim of the shooting, who has not yet been identified, was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injury. He was later airlifted to a hospital in Jackson to receive additional treatment.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and additional arrests are pending.
