A special election, a party primary, was held on Tuesday after the reconfiguration of district lines opened seats in the Mississippi legislature.
Senate district 42 elected Don Hartness from the three republican candidates on the ballot. Incumbent candidate, Robin Robinson lost her seat by less than 100 votes. Due to the lack of a democratic candidate for this seat, there will be no general election on Nov. 4 for district 42.
The incumbent candidate for Senate district 44, Chris Johnson, held on to his seat- managing to nearly double the votes cast for Patrick Lott. Shakita Taylor will be the democratic candidate in the Nov. 4 general election.
Senate district 45, which was not included on the Aug. 5 primary and includes parts of Forrest and Lamar counties, will decide between their republican candidate, Anna Rush, and their democratic candidate, Johnny DuPree, in the Nov. 4 general election.
Senate district 41, which includes parts of Covington, Marion, Lamar and Walthall counties, will not participate in the primary or general election as their incumbent republican candidate, Joey Fillingane, is running unopposed.
