Presbyterian Christian’s Jalyn Spencer, DJ McNair and Cannon McClain signed football scholarships on Wednesday.
“All three of these guys exemplify the type of student-athlete that we want to see and that play here,” PCS coach Bobby Carr said. "They do things right on and off the field. They have great leadership, and I can say that their best football is ahead of all three of them.”
This past season, Spencer racked up 79 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 11 sacks. The defensive lineman will head to Northwest CC.
“Jaylyn had a number of offers, but he chose Northwest over some Division I schools,” Carr said. “He’s a great student and great leader. He has a great motor. He led our team in sacks. The future is bright for him.”
McNair split time between running back and linebacker for the Bobcats as he ran for 455 yards and three scores and totaled 73 tackles at linebacker. McNair will play Ottawa University, which is an NAIA program in Kansas.
“Damian McNair was a two-way player for us,” Carr said. “We didn’t play him at linebacker until midway through the season, and he still had over 70 tackles. He also led our team in rushing. I don’t know where they will play him at the next level. I’m thinking the backfield, but that’s to be determined.”
McClain, who is the son of Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain, will play defensive back at Delta State.
“Cannon McClain came out late and hadn’t played football since the eighth grade,” Carr said. “His upside is out the roof. He’s 6-foot-4, he can run, and he’s long. You can’t teach speed and size, and he has both of those. I look forward to seeing him progress.”
