Lumberton 19, Resurrection 14
The Panthers finish the year 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the region. In the win, quarterback Lathan Bowens threw for two touchdowns and 135 yards, while also running for 81 yards. Kalyjah Willis hauled in three catches for 123 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Tylan Sibley recorded 16 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks. However, because Lumberton did not beat Resurrection by 11 points or less, the Eagles clinched the No. 1 seed of Region 8-1A, Sacred Heart is the No. 2 seed and Lumberton is the No. 3 seed. The Panthers will travel to play Ethel in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs. Ethel finished the season defeating Noxapater 28-8.
Sacred Heart 45, Enterprise 8
The Crusaders finish the regular season 9-1 overall and 4-1 in the region. Quarterback Kyron Murphey was 14 of 16 for 121 yards and three touchdowns, with running back DJ Booth rushing for three touchdowns as well. On defense, Gary Duckworth Jr. and Luke Davey each came down with an interception. Sacred Heart will host Noxapater in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs.
Oak Grove 31, Pearl 13
The Warriors improved to 8-1 overall and 3-1 in region play. Oak Grove scored 24 points in the second quarter to cruise to for a win. Quarterback AJ Maddox was 13 of 17 throwing for 226 yards and two touchdowns. PJ Woodland came down with three catches for 115 yards and a touchdown and ran for an 8-yard touchdown. On defense, Drew Maddox had a team-leading 12 tackles, two TFLs and came up with one of the Warriors’ seven sacks. Oak Grove will host rival Petal next week. Notably, the Warriors have clinched the No. 2 seed of Region 3-7A. If Petal defeats Oak Grove then the Panthers will get into the playoffs as the No. 4 seed.
Petal 38, Northwest Rankin 31
The Panthers snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 4-5 overall and 1-3 in region play. Wide receiver Cayden Burger had eight catches for 109 yards and three touchdowns, while running back Dylan Lewis ran for 173 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries. Quarterback Dylan Eli was 15 of 18 for 184 yards and four touchdowns. Defensive back Skylar Husband made seven tackles, came down with an interception and recovered a fumble. Petal will travel to play Oak Grove next week.
North Forrest 57, Leake Central 42
The Eagles finish the regular season 4-6 overall and 1-3 in the region. Davion Young put up 227 all-purpose yards including 13 carries for 179 yards and four rushing touchdowns, two interceptions and a 26-yard reception touchdown. North Forrest clinches the No. 4 seed for Region 8-2A and will travel to play Raleigh in the first round of the playoffs. Raleigh comes off a 47-0 win over Pelahatchie.
Hattiesburg 39, Terry 0
The Tigers extend their win streak to six straight and move to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in the region. Hattiesburg will host West Jones for a winner-take-all matchup to decide Region 3-6A. The Mustangs defeated Pearl River Central 56-0 last week.
Lawrence County 36, FCAHS 31
The Aggies finished the year 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the region. FCAHS clinched the No. 3 seed of Region 7-4A and will travel to play Northeast Jones to open the playoffs. The Tigers come off a 10-9 win against Mendenhall.
Columbia 34, Purvis 21
The Tornadoes finish the year 5-5 overall and 1-4 in the region. Running back Moses Cummings finishes the year running for 1,755 yards and 20 touchdowns.
MRA 56, PCS 10
The Bobcats finish the regular season 3-7 and 1-4 in district play. PCS will travel to play Jackson Academy in the first round of the MAIS 6A playoffs.
Sumrall experienced a bye this past week, but the Bobcats clinched the No. 4 seed of Region 7-4A, finishing the regular season 4-5 overall and 1-3 in the district. Sumrall will open the Class 4A playoffs on the road against Quittman, which ended its season with a 35-14 win over Forest.
