Presbyterian Christian’s Addyson Sherer will be staying close to home, as the Lady Bobcats’ senior guard chose to sign with William Carey on Monday.
“William Carey felt like home to me from my first visit,” Sherer said. “Continuing a Christian education has always been an important aspect for my family and our values as a family. The opportunity to play with friends and close to home in front of friends and family also had a big impact on my decision. Lastly, Coach (Jessica) Garriga was encouraging and supportive throughout the recruiting process and made my decision easy.”
Sherer will join a pair of former PCS alum on the roster, which includes Meyah Doyle and Gabrielle Gallup.
“PCS has made a huge impact on me,” Sherer said. “The school has pushed me and grown me spiritually, academically, and athletically. I am thankful for the teachers who have pushed me and taken an interest in me, my friends who have made memories with me along the way, and my coaches who have pushed me to be a better version of myself. I have also been so blessed to have my family and especially my dad with me along the way.”
Sherer, who was named Pine Belt Sports’ Girls Area Basketball Player of the Year last season, helped lead PCS to the MAIS Overall State title game and a 33-6 record.
“Addyson is a very talented individual,” PCS coach Drew Smith said. “She doesn’t get that way just naturally. She spends a lot of time in the gym. She’s a gym rat and loves to get in there and work extra.
“While she is gifted athletically, her skills, the way that she shoots the ball, how smart she is, just comes with extra work and time. That’s what makes her who she is.”
During her junior year, Sherer averaged 17 points, three steals and three assists per game.
“Signing a college scholarship is something I have been working towards and a goal of mine for many years,” Sherer said. “I am so grateful the Lord has given me this opportunity for a chance to do something not many people get to do. I don’t want to take this for granted, and I am looking forward to playing at a new level with new challenges and people.”
