The Hattiesburg Community Arts Center, in conjunction with City of Hattiesburg Parks and Recreation Department, is hosting their first Holiday Art Market from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 5.
The event will take place in the parking lot of the arts center (the old Hattiesburg American building) located at 825 Main St. in Hattiesburg.
Emily Gallaspy, director of the community arts center, said this event will provide people an awesome chance to do some unique holiday shopping.
“The holiday art market is a really great opportunity for people to do some holiday shopping, buying gifts, things like that,” Gallaspy said. “Anything from jewelry to pottery, to original pieces of artwork … the plan is it’s all art; there’s nothing but art. We’re trying to give artists an opportunity to come show off art and sell their wares.”
Gallaspy said the event will be a great time to “stock up on gifts.”
“(These gifts) are so much more interesting than getting something from J.C. Penney or something,” she said.
She added they currently have 18 artists planning to sell their wares on Saturday, including some who rent space and work out of the Hattiesburg Community Arts Center.
Team members from Art Makes Art, Abigail Lenz Allen’s resident studio, will also be on hand selling small gifts and helping provide free art projects for kids throughout the day.
“This is our first time hosting the art market, so we’re really excited for people to come and check out the space,” Gallaspy said. “We will still heavily encourage people to wear masks, even though we’ll be outside. We just want to respect the artist’s space, because right now, it’s been really difficult for artists to be able to sell their merchandise.”
