“Do you run and have a passion for educating children?” asks a recent social media post by the organizers of the Hattiesburg Half-Marathon. “Or, maybe you love to run and you have a passion for making sure our fuzzy, four-legged Hattiesburgers are taken care of?”
The post calls for interested participants in the annual race — which includes a half-marathon, 10K and 5K — to sign-up as “Charity Runners”. These runners choose a designated non-profit when they register for the event.
“Regardless of your passion - we have a cause we can connect you to during this year's (event),” the post continues. “You can make an impact on our community simply by running!”
Participating organizations include:
• The Arc Southeast Mississippi
• The Children's Center for Communication and Development
• Christian Services, Inc.
• Domestic Abuse Family Shelter
• Dream of Hattiesburg
• DuBard School for Language Disorders
• The Family Y Hattiesburg
• Habitat for Humanity of the Pine Belt
• Kuntry Kidz
• R3sm
• Sacred Heart Catholic School
• Southern Pines Animal Shelter
The 2022 half-marathon will be on April 2 in Downtown Hattiesburg. Runners can register at:

The post concludes, “One small step makes a dent in your running plan and can make a lasting impact on a local nonprofit!”
