Taylor, Hunt to lead AES, CCHS in the upcoming year

Ackerman Elementary and Choctaw County High School will have two new principals for the upcoming year.
In Choctaw County School Board March meeting, the board approved the promotion of Lexi Taylor and the hiring of Amir Hunt.
Taylor currently serves as the assistant principal of Ackerman Elementary School.Taylor will succeed Principal Samantha Kelly, who is the incoming assistant superintendent.

Town of Ackerman implements new ordinance for meeting rules

In an effort to shorten meetings and bring a sense of order to them, the Town of Ackerman has approved new rules for board meetings.
Now, there will be a citizens' comments section added to the board’s agenda. Similar to the public comments section, the Board of Supervisors and the Choctaw County School Board currently have.

Employee recommendations approved for CCSD 2026-2027 school year

During the March board meeting, the Choctaw County School District approved employee recommendations for the 2026-2027 school year.
“I want to be clear that Mr. [Glen] Blaine is still the assistant superintendent and Mr. [Glen] Beard is the superintendent, and he signed off on these,” Trustee Nola Bryant asked.
“Yes, I did,” Beard said. “My initials are on there.”

Lady Eagles stay perfect

Clay Grissom’s Eupora Lady Eagles continue to roll on this softball season.
After taking a two-game set against Choctaw County and Ethel earlier in the week, the Lady Eagles tested themselves against South Pontotoc on the road. Clinging to a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning, the Lady Eagles scored six runs in the last two frames on the way to a 8-3 win over the Lady Cougars.

McDaniel gives program for Maben Garden Club

Dr. Erica McDaniel, MSU Extension Service director for Webster County, gave the Maben Garden Club a most interesting slide presentation in February she had developed on “Preventing Dementia.”
Erica encouraged the ladies to maintain healthy lifestyle choices such as a heart-healthy diet, a good exercise plan, a healthy body weight, reduced stress and being a non-smoker.
