Mrs. Ruth Yates King, age 102, passed away on Monday, February 23, surrounded by her family. A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her life was defined by faith, hard work, and deep love for her family.
Ruth was well-known in the community for her strong work ethic and dedication as the owner and operator of a family grocery store for 19 years. She found great joy in gardening, tending to her flowers, and watching the birds - simple pleasures that brought her happiness throughout her life.

Otis Wayne Makamson, 82, of Greenwood, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Golden Age Nursing Home. There will be family service at a later date.
Mr. Makamson was born September 21, 1943, in Alligator, to Otis Wilbur Makamson and Corrie Nail Makamson. He was of the Baptist faith. He worked in the restaurant business before retiring as manager of Three Rivers in Grenada. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Kelly, Margaret Sanders, and Patsy Peacock, and his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Joyce Randall of Stewart, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. R. W. Miller, of Vaiden, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at Vaiden Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Staszefski officiating. Burial followed in Michie Cemetery in Vaiden. Pallbearers were Jeramy Shirley, Mason Weeks, Kameron Miller, Jaden Miller, Johnny King, and Ethan Shirley. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Weeks, Richard Boone, Wyatt Boone, Jonathan Miller, and Jeremiah Petty.
Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 22, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.; and Monday, Feb. 23, from noon until service time at Vaiden Baptist Church.

George Oliver Hays, 95, passed away Friday, February 20, 2026, at Country Meadow Personal Care Home in Greenwood. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Monday, March 2, at the North MS Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Kilmichael with Rev. Dustin Long officiating. Billy E. Dunn, Jr. born April 25, 1964, in East Prairie, Missouri, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend whose life was marked by faith, love, and a deep appreciation for the outdoors.
Billy graduated from Mississippi State University, carrying with him the values of hard work, loyalty, and perseverance that would define his life. On July 28, 1990, he married Catherine Cooper Dunn. Together they built a strong and faithful marriage rooted in love, family, and their shared Catholic faith.

Patsy was born Sept. 24, 1926, to Clifford Bailey and Empress Campbell Bailey in Chicago, IL and departed this life Feb. 7, in Oxford.
Patsy moved to Tylertown at a young age and discovered a love for playing the piano and continued to study music at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Her first job as a musician/pianist was in Holly Springs at First Baptist Church where she met her husband of 66 years, Aubrey Boone.

Bobby Wayne Mims passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, leaving a legacy of faith, service, and devotion to family.
Bob was born to Willie and Lois Mims on Feb. 25, 1948, in Coila. He graduated from Leflore County High School and Northeast Louisiana University.
In August of 1969, Bob married the love of his life, Sonna Jean Callens Mims, affectionately known as Babe. They were happily married for over 56 years.

Services for Ralph Redditt Phillips of Coila will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Coila.
Mr. Phillips, 63, died Friday, Jan. 30, at his sister's home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 10:55 a.m. at the church.
The Rev. Howard E. Newton will officiate the services.

James Anthony “Tony” Franks was born June 30, 1942, at his family’s home in the Frankstown community in Prentiss County, the second of three children born to Genelle Hill and James Marcus Franks. He passed from this life Jan. 24.
Tony was educated in the public-school systems of Wheeler and Baldwyn, graduating from Baldwyn High School in 1960. He attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College and Mississippi State College, and he graduated from Delta State College with a degree in music.

Janie Haining Shepherd-Wells, age 92, a resident of Waynesville, NC and Winona, passed away peacefully on Jan. 29 at her home. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and educator who lived life fully.
Born on Dec. 19, 1933, in Yazoo City, she was the daughter of the late Walton and Hazel Haining. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Dacus Haining and her first husband, Bill Shepherd.
