Race organizers for the Hattiesburg Half Marathon, 10K and 5K are tying up final details for its upcoming annual event that benefits 14 local nonprofits, set for Saturday, April 1.
Steered by the Pinebelt Foundation and Volunteer Southeast Mississippi, the race benefits local nonprofit organizations while attracting runners from all over the southeast (and beyond). From start to finish, it relies on more than 175 volunteers.
“This event is a force in making an impact on our local nonprofits, but it takes a lot of work at the hands of many who give their time, talents and skills throughout the weekend,” said Clarissa Ewell with Volunteer Southeast Mississippi, the volunteer management arm of the race steering team. “We have joined together with a few civic groups and many returning volunteers, but we can always use more!
With race participation capped at 1,500 runners, organizers are making a last call for race-day volunteers. Volunteers can serve through setup, along the course or at the after-party. All volunteers receive a race shirt and entry into the Finish Fest, a robust post-race party at Town Square Park.

Ewell added, “This event is a true collaboration between so many organizations who do life-changing work in our community, and it doesn’t happen without a lot of extra hands. If someone wants to be involved but doesn’t want to run, we have many opportunities to serve.”
