Two suspects plead guilty to murder of USM football player

The second and third of four suspects charged in the June 2024 death of Southern Miss football player, MJ Daniels, entered guilty pleas on Wednesday. Both Allen Marcus Gardner, 18, and Shamir Green, 17, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. Gardner also entered a plea of guilty to conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Rivers indicted by grand jury for murder of Lauren Johansen

A grand jury indicted Bricen Rivers on Tuesday, Feb. 18 on charges of capital murder, grand larceny auto and tampering with physical evidence. Rivers is accused of the July 2024 killing of his ex-girlfriend, Lauren Johansen, a 22-year-old student from Gulfport living in Hattiesburg. The trial date has been set for June 24, 2025.
