Baxterville parents refuse to back down

Baxterville citizens, now operating under the group name, “Concerned Citizens of Baxterville,” continued to speak out at Monday’s Lamar County School Board meeting in an effort to retain their sixth through eighth grade students. The board voted in February to move those grades from Baxterville to Purvis Middle School.

Small hero, big heart: Purvis sixth-grader rescues grandfather from car crash

Purvis middle-schooler, Bella Reese Starnes, and her grandfather were involved in a serious car accident on April 30 that resulted in the car turning over and landing upside-down. Not only was Starnes able to escape from the overturned vehicle, but quickly sprang into action and was able to also pull her grandfather from the wreckage.
