Southern Miss coach Scott Berry’s postseason journey begins the same place it started.
The Golden Eagles learned of their postseason fate on Monday and will head to the Auburn Regional. The only other time USM played in Auburn during the postseason was back in 2010, which was Berry’s first season as head coach. The Regional will feature Auburn, Southern Miss, Penn and Samford.
“I hope it’s a different outcome, but I’m so grateful for the 14 years,” Southern Miss coach Scott Berry said. “It was a really good field. Best I can remember, it had Clemson, Jackson State, ourself and Auburn . Where it ends this year will be fun too, but it’ll be no different than any other regional that we have been a part of.”
Auburn is the No. 13 national seed and is paired with the Clemson Regional for the Super Regional round. The Clemson Regional includes No. 4 Clemson, Lipscomb, Charlotte and Tennessee.
Auburn (34-24-1), which is the No. 1 seed in the regional, will open against No. 4 Penn (32-14), while No. 2 Southern Miss will play Samford (36-23).
This is the seventh straight NCAA tournament appearance and 19th overall in program history.
“I’ll take it in no more than any other year,” said Berry on preparing for his final postseason run. “There will be plenty of time for me to reflect on the good times of this career and this job here and the blessing that have come in my life. That’s what I plan on doing when it’s all said and done. I’ll think about the championships and all the great relationships. I won't think about any of the bad times or disappointing times. Those things won’t be in my mind it’ll be the good times.”
The Auburn Regional has been announced sold out.
Southern Miss will play Samford at 1 p.m., with Auburn and Penn set to play at 6 p.m. Both games will be televised on ESPN+
