Matthew Lofton will be on a different court next basketball season as he will become Purvis' next head boys basketball coach.
Lofton spent the last five seasons as the Presbyterian Christian School’s girls’ basketball coach in which he went 84-71 in that span.
“I will say it was a challenging decision because I love PCS so much,” Lofton said. “I love my players, but in the end, I was really excited about what Purvis had to offer. I’m real excited about a new challenge. I haven’t coached boys since 2010 so that’ll be something different as well.
“Most importantly for me I want to challenge student-athletes. I love the game of basketball, but I love the student-athletes even more.”
Lofton was the lead assistant coach at PCS for nine years before moving to head coach. Lofton also served as the interim head coach for the PCS boys in the 2007-08 season.
“I think (Purvis) is hungry for success and I think they are hungry for a challenge," Lofton said. "I think that I can present that to them.”
Former Purvis head coach Eric Cooper will return to his alma mater at Sumrall to serve as an assistant coach.
