Conference USA has suspended all spring sports.
According to Southern Miss Director of Athletics Jeremy McClain, the decision to suspend C-USA sports occurred Thursday morning.
“We made the decision just within the last hour,” said McClain around noon Thursday. “We have been meeting several times over the course of the week to evaluate the situation. We met within the last two hours a couple of times to just make a decision on how we want to move forward with, number one, canceling the C-USA basketball tournament and how to handle spring sports moving forward. We just hit the pause button with suspending all competition for now, really to limit crowds and limit exposure for our students.”
McClain also said there was no time table for when spring sports will resume, but the decision to reopen activities will be assessed daily starting next week.
