Hattiesburg coach Tony Vance had a question for his team after Friday night’s jamboree against Tylertown at North Forrest.
“Have you ever played on field conditions like that?”
After an afternoon of rain in the area, the surface turned to a wet, muddy and slick field, and Vance said he hasn’t had a team play on a field like that during his time at Hattiesburg. The Tigers and Chiefs was the nightcap of the jamboree, and the two played a two-quarter scrimmage after the field saw five one-quarter games played on it.

For what it’s worth, Hattiesburg won the scrimmage 12-8 over Tylertown.
The Tigers’ defense allowed 120 total yards of offense to Tylertown, but the majority of those came on the first drive of the game. After Hattiesburg’s game-opening drive stalled, the Chiefs used nine plays to travel 90 yards for a touchdown. It ended on a 37-yard touchdown pass and catch over the middle.
The Hattiesburg offense followed up its first drive punt with a three-and-out, but it found its rhythm on its third and fourth drives.
Most of Hattiesburg’s starters played on those first four drives, while the backups played the fifth and final possession.
Hattiesburg senior Drexlan Allen scored at the beginning of the second quarter from 5 yards out to cut Tylertown’s lead to 8-6, then senior quarterback Jarod “Snoop” Conner completed a long pass to senior receiver Darius Ruffin for a 75-yard score.
The Tigers couldn’t convert either 2-point conversion play.
The Tigers’ defense used back-to-back sacks on Tylertown’s last drive to put the game away.
