Joe Gray’s dream of becoming a professional baseball player has come true. The former Hattiesburg star and two-time PineBeltSPORTS Player of the Year flew to Milwaukee Thursday and signed his pro deal with the Brewers on Friday.
He also took batting practice at Miller Park before flying to Arizona Saturday to begin his career, Gray told PineBeltSPORTS on Wednesday.
Gray was taken with the 60th overall selection in the second round on the MLB Draft earlier this month. The slot value for the pick was worth $1.1 million, which was slightly less than his original asking price prior to the draft, and Gray signed for $1,113,500.

His end goal is to play in Milwaukee sooner rather than later, but before he makes his MLB debut in the no-so-distance future, Gray will most likely play for the Biloxi Shuckers, Milwaukee’s double-A affiliate. MGM Park, the home of the Shuckers, is less than 75 miles away from Hattiesburg High.
