MOBILE, Ala. – The William Carey men picked up 266 points to win the 2018 SSAC Men's Track & Field Championship Saturday at Jaguar Track in Mobile, Ala.
WCU built a commanding lead after the field events on day one and extended their advantage in the track events on day two. The Crusaders were absolutely dominant as they took the top spot in twelve different events for the championship.
"Really proud of the guys," said Head Coach Blake Hegstrom. "The men executed on what needed to be done and dug deep on Saturday when everyone was tired. I really love the attitudes and effort the guys put out. I'm looking forward to seeing what this group can go on to do in a couple weeks at the National Championship."
Saturday's victory is the second straight SSAC Championship for the men's outdoor track & field squad.

The William Carey women racked up 240 points to win the 2018 SSAC Women's Track & Field Championship Saturday at Jaguar Track in Mobile, Ala. William Carey'sBrittany Jones (FR/Soso, MS) was also named the Championship Top Scorer with 36 points, winning the long jump and triple jump.
After day one, the Lady Crusaders were in third place with 36 total points but on day two they went to work. Carey swept the top four spots in the 100m, totaling 29 points, led by Mia Bridges (SR/Laurel, MS) winning with a time of 12.28. They also grabbed four of the top five spots in the 200m for 25 points, with Younis Bese (JR/Suva, Fiji) winning (25.02). William Carey grabbed 15 top-three placements in Saturday's track events to pull away for good.
"The ladies really stepped up and battled this weekend," said Head Coach Blake Hegstrom. "We entered the weekend with the understanding that everyone need to do their part for us to be successful, and they did just that. Every single one of these ladies stepped up as a team and together they were successful. Just really proud of this group. "
