HATTIESBURG – Twelve different Southern Miss baseball players, looking to improve their games for next season, traveled all over the country this summer to play in six different leagues on seven different teams.
Four Golden Eagles, Storme Cooper, Fred Franklin, Alex Nelms and Sean Tweedy, currently play for the Acadiana Cane Cutters (Youngsville, La.) in the Texas Collegiate league, while both Gabe Montenegro and Jacob Weirich are members of the Waynesboro (Va.) Generals in the Valley Baseball League.
Bryant Bowen is a member of the Upper Valley (Vt.) Nighthawks and Erick Hoard plays for the Ocean State (R.I.) Waves, both in the New Collegiate Baseball League, while Ryan Och and Will McGillis began their summers with the Bellingham (Wash.) Bells of the West Coast League. Due to injury, McGillis left the squad early in the summer.
Pitcher Jarod Wright plays for the Mankato (Minn.) Moondogs of the Northwoods League, while pitcher Cody Carroll is a member of the Wareham (Mass.) Gatemen of the Cape Cod League.
