Friday featured five contests for our area schools, so recap all of the games with a quick roundup from the night.
Petal 27, Laurel 0
Not only did the Petal Panthers earn their first win of the season, they did it with a shutout win over Laurel. Petal led by 14-0 after the opening 12 minutes then it extended the lead to 20-0 by halftime.
After head coach Marcus Boyles told PineBeltSPORTS on Monday that his defense didn’t to get off the field sooner, the Panthers finished the shutout with another offensive touchdown in the second half.
Petal has an off week next week before beginning region play with the defending 6A State Champions, the Pearl Pirates.
Sumrall 40, Enterprise 7
The Sumrall Bobcats remain undefeated with a dominant 40-7 win over the Enterprise Bulldogs Friday. It was the first home game of the season, too.
The Bobcats jumped up 7-0 after a touchdown pass from Dannis Jackson to Gabe Crocroft in the first quarter, then pushed the lead to 14-0 by the end of the frame. Tyrek Preston had an 80-plus-yard touchdown a few minutes later, and Sumrall built a 34-7 lead by halftime.
Sumrall will host Richton Friday night.
Lumberton 33, Franklin County 24
The Lumberton Panthers fell behind early, but they pushed ahead 27-12 after Robert Henry ran back the opening kickoff in the second half.
Jared Tribett passed for 138 yards and a touchdown on 64 percent passing, Davion Edwards and Henry each added 100-yard games. Edwards finished with 101 yards and two touchdowns, while Henry led the team with 103 yards and a score.
Lumberton is off next week before it opens region play with a road game to Mount Olive.
North Forrest 49, Sacred Heart 13
The North Forrest Eagles pulled ahead 42-0 by halftime, then cruised to the 36-point win. Quarterback Zach Weatherell scored both second-half touchdowns for the Crusaders, throwing one to Tanner Blakeney and rushing for another.
Sacred Heart travels to St. Patrick Friday.
Simpson Academy 20, Presbyterian Christian 7
The PCS Bobcats hung tough with Simpson Academy, but a fourth-quarter touchdown put the game out of reach for PCS. Simpson Academy took a 7-0 lead after the first quarter, then a 14-7 advantage by halftime.
The Bobcats will host Lamar School Friday.
