ELLISVILLE – There were plenty of superlatives for both Jones County Junior College soccer teams here on a pleasant Friday night at Bobcat Soccer Field.
Aimee Durn (Watford, England) had four goals and an assist to help the No. 19 Jones County Lady Bobcats whip Meridian, 8-1.
In the men’s game, Thomas Carlile (Athgarvan, Ireland) scored all three goals as the Bobcats blanked the Eagles, 3-0.
The JCJC teams return to action on Sept. 15 when they host Pearl River. The women’s game begins at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m.
Meridian will entertain Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday.
Lady Bobcats 8, Lady Eagles 1
The game was scoreless for most of the first half before JCJC broke through.
Durn scored at 36:35 and then again at 40:15 off a Mary Margaret Parker (Sacred Heart) assist to give JCJC a 2-0 halftime lead.
Durn’s goal at 46:48 made it 3-0 and Parker’s goal at 54:11 gave the Lady Bobcats a 4-0 lead.
Meridian avoided the shutout when Clair Campbell scored on a penalty kick at 62:33.
But Jones resumed its scoring frenzy when Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) scored at 78:38. Moments later, Zakiah Almatrood (Biloxi) assisted Durn to make it 6-1.
Banks put Durn’s corner kick into the back of the net at 86:42 and Parker ended the scoring at 88:19.
Mia Holmes (Brandon) was in goal for the first half and Caroline Runion (Madison Central) was in goal for the second half for the Lady Bobcats.
JCJC is now 3-0 overall and in the MACJC South Division.
Meridian falls to 0-4 overall, 0-2 in the division.
Bobcats 3, Eagles 0
Jones County took control in the first half as they were able to stop a four-game winless streak.
Carlile’s goal off a Davis Gibson (Sacred Heart) assist at 17:46 made it 1-0. Minutes later, the same duo hooked up again as Gibson assisted Carlile at 20:20 to make it 2-0.
Carlile’s third goal came less than a minute into the second half at 45:31 when Kreider Henderson (North Pike) got the assist.
Koby Quave (Long Beach) was in goal for the entire 90 minutes for the Bobcats.
JCJC is now 2-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the division.
Meridian drops to 0-5 overall, 0-2 in division play.
