JCJC soccer sweeps NorthwestBy FROM JCJC,
ELLISVILLE – The Jones College soccer teams knocked off Northwest Mississippi in a pair of games here Monday evening at Bobcat Soccer Field.
In the women’s game, the Lady Bobcats blitzed the Lady Rangers, 8-0. In the men’s contest, Jones posted a 3-1 decision. Both Jones teams are now 2-0.
The Bobcats open MACJC South Division play Saturday at Southwest Mississippi. The women’s game begins at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m.
Northwest goes to Meridian on Tuesday.
Lady Bobcats 8, Lady Rangers 0
Jones dominated from the start, taking a 6-0 lead at halftime.
Madison LaFontaine (Pass Christian) got the scoring started at 7:29 with a goal. Aimee Durn (London, England) scored at 17:27 off an assist by Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) to make it 2-0. Banks scored at 20:47 with Heather Sullivan (Pearl) assisting. Banks scored an unassisted goal at 32:21 to give Jones a 4-0 lead. Allie James (West Jones) scored at 41:12 with Mary Ann O’Kennedy (Sligo, Ireland) getting the assist. Esmeralda Figueroa (Northeast Jones) put the ball in the net via a Durn assist at 43:48 to make it 6-0.
An Olivia Simpson (George County) goal off a Durn assist at 77:42 made it 7-0. Anna Grace Gieger (West Jones) ended the scoring at 84:20 with Durn getting her third assist of the game.
Jones outshot Northwest by a whopping 39-2 margin. The Lady Bobcats had nine corner kicks, compared to none for the Lady Rangers.
Alexis Wilson (Long Beach) was in goal for Jones and was credited with one save.
Angel Hailey played the first half in goal for Northwest and Makenzie Ellis played the second half.
The Lady Rangers fall to 2-1.
Bobcats 3, Rangers 1
Jones fell behind 1-0 but came back to notch the victory.
The Rangers took the lead at 39:32 when Joseph Hayes scored off an assist by Parker Trawick.
The Bobcats quickly tied the game at 42:56 when Adam Stone (Oak Grove) scored with Thomas Carlile (Athgarvan, Ireland) getting the assist.
Jones took the lead in the second half when Carlile scored at 56:18. Carlile ended the scoring at 80:04.
Callum Harley (Whitley Bay, England) was in goal for the Bobcats and was credited with four saves.
Jones outshot the Rangers 28-9 and had nine corner kicks with Northwest getting none.
Tim Houston played the whole game in goal for the Rangers and had nine saves.
Northwest is now 0-2.
