ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College has made it into the Top 10 in the NJCAA football poll.
Head coach Steve Buckley’s Bobcats are rated No. 10 in the latest poll, which was released Tuesday afternoon. Jones was No. 14 last week.
The Bobcats, 6-1 overall, have won six straight since an opening game loss to No. 7 East Mississippi. Jones defeated Pearl River 52-31 last week.
JCJC will host No. 4 Hinds, 6-0, at 2 p.m. Saturday in a major MACJC/NJCAA showdown at Bobcat Stadium/Sim Cooley Field. Hinds has played one less game because their opening game at No. 6 Northwest was suspended because of bad weather. The game was tied 0-0 entering the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats are 4-0 in MACJC South Division play, while the Eagles are 5-0.
Mississippi Gulf Coast, next week’s JCJC opponent, is ranked No. 15 in the latest poll. Itawamba and Holmes are listed in the “Others Receiving Votes” category.
Iowa Western, 6-1, is ranked No. 1, followed by Arizona Western, 5-0, and Trinity Valley (Texas), 6-1, at No. 3.
