ELLISVILLE – The Jones College soccer teams continue to impress during the early part of the season.
The 14th-rated Lady Bobcats blanked Mississippi Gulf Coast 3-0 here Friday evening at Bobcat Soccer Field. The Lady Bobcats still have not allowed a goal this season.
In the men’s game, Jones beat the Bulldogs, 5-3.
Both Jones’ teams are 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the MACJC South Division.
The Bobcats return home Tuesday against Pearl River. The women’s game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7 p.m.
MGCCC travels to LSU-Eunice on Tuesday.
Lady Bobcats 3, Lady Bulldogs 0
Jones has outscored its opponents 15-0 through three games.
Aimee Durn (London, England) got the Lady Bobcats on the board at 27:11 when she scored off of an assist by Esmeralda Figueroa (Northeast Jones). A Mikayla Banks (Vicksburg) goal at 41:54 gave the Lady Bobcats a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
The only goal in the second half came in the final seconds at 89:26 when Rachel Barnaby (Derry, Ireland) scored with Mary Ann O’Kennedy (Sligo, Ireland) recording the assist.
Alexis Wilson (Long Beach) was in goal for the entire game for Jones and had three saves.
Haley Lott was In goal for MGCCC.
The Lady Bulldogs are 1-1 overall and in the division.
Bobcats 5, Bulldogs 3
There were several momentum changes throughout the game, but the Bobcats prevailed in their division opener.
The Bulldogs scored first when Matt Roberts put the ball into the net at 16:48.
Jones would tie it up when Cris Rodrigo (Northwest Rankin) converted on a free kick at 27:59.
The Bobcats went up 2-1 at 40:52 when Justis Casey (Greene County) scored with Dalton Morgan (South Jones) getting the assist of a rebound.
But the Bulldogs would tie it up just before halftime at 44:23 when C.J. Smith scored.
Jones quickly took the lead in the second half when Thomas Carlile (Athgarvan, Ireland) scored at 46:10.
Glenn Waters (Dungarvan, Ireland) scored on a penalty kick at 67:45 to put the Bobcats up 4-2.
But MGCCC would convert a penalty kick by Roberts at 68:16 to trim the margin to 4-3.
The game’s final goal came at 78:12 when Rodrigo booted a free kick home, just below the crossbar.
Callum Harley (Whitley Bay, England) was in goal for the entire game for Jones.
The Bulldogs fall to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in division play.
