Two former area standouts helped Ole Miss earn a Week 1 win over Texas Tech last Saturday. In return, they were honored with Player of the Week accolades by the Southeastern Conference Monday.
Former PCS Bobcat Luke Logan and Jones County Junior College transfer Scottie Phillips were named the SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week and SEC offensive Player of the week, respectively.
Logan, a sophomore, converted all four field goal attempts in the win. He hit from distances of 24, 29, 39 and 23 yards, and he also served as the team’s kickoff specialist. Logan was 2-for-3 when he stepped in for an injured Gary Wunderlich last season.
Phillips totaled 204 rushing yards on 16 carries Saturday, and that was the most production by any Ole Miss running back making his debut. It was also the second-most rushing yards from college football’s opening weekend.
