The first half featured plenty of scoring opportunities for the Lady Tigers. The West Jones defenders watched Hattiesburg junior Kendyl Terrell closely, but she still put up shot after shot at the Lady Mustangs’ goal.
Despite the shot-on-goal disparity, West Jones scored the first goal of the night in the 35th minute. After Jenny Batista received the ball in the 18-yard box, a Hattiesburg defender moved in to shut down the scoring try. But, the ball found a wide-open Natalie Allgood, who finished easily.
Less than 30 seconds later, Terrell had the ball deep in West Jones’ territory. After moving the ball into the six-yard box, she powered a shot past the West Jones keeper to tie the game 1-1.
Even though the scoreboard read a 1-1 tie at the break, the Lady Tigers had six shots on goal to West Jones’ two after the first 40 minutes.
In the second half, however, the tables were turned. West Jones recorded six shots on goal to Hattiesburg’s one, and the Lady Mustangs benefited with three second-half goals to take the game over.
Batista gave the Lady Mustangs a 2-1 lead in the 50th minute, scoring after a corner kick, then Allgood added her second goal of the game in the 65th minute. Breonna Williams ended the scoring with a 72nd-minute goal to give West Jones a commanding 4-1 advantage.
