Southern Pines Animal Shelter has been awarded a $4,000 I Care for Animals grant delegated via the Mississippi Board of Animal Health. This funding’s purpose is to support the organization’s ongoing spay/neuter initiatives, furthering its mission to nurture the bond between people and pets through community, compassion and collaboration.
This grant enabled Southern Pines Healthy Pet Clinic to successfully hold its “Spooky Spayathon” event in October. Eighty female dogs were spayed for $25 under the car tag grant this fall, helping to curb pet overpopulation and to make spay and neuter more affordable and accessible for all pet owners.
“We are incredibly grateful for the support from the I Care for Animals grant, which has provided much-needed essential financial assistance to families with female pups in our community,” said Dr. Alicia Fortenberry, Medical Director for Southern Pines. “This funding has helped us further our mission of providing affordable, accessible care and making a real difference for families and their pets in our community.”
The I Care for Animals car tag program, now in its 20th year, provides Mississippians with the opportunity to support animal welfare across the state through the purchase of specialty license plates. Proceeds from these tags are distributed to animal shelters, humane organizations and local governments to support animal welfare initiatives.
Mississippi residents can purchase these car tags at county tax collector’s offices, contributing directly to animal welfare in Mississippi.
