Adopting a pet can bring special joy and companionship to their people. Southern Pines Animal Shelter is proud to partner with PetSmart Charities® to bring adoptable pets to the Hattiesburg PetSmart in support of National Adoption Week, taking place October 20 - 26, 2025. With a goal of finding loving homes for 100 pets, all pets present at the event will have their adoption fees waived, thanks to PetSmart Charities.
While there will be cats available for adoption all week during regular store hours, the shelter will be at PetSmart during the following times with adoptable fee-waived dogs and puppies:
Thursday (10/23): 2p-7p
Friday (10/24): 1p-6p
Saturday (10/25): 10a-6p
Barktoberfest (10/25): 10a-12p
Sunday (10/26): 11a-3p
During the in-store event, Southern Pines invites the public to spend time with adoptable cats & dogs of all ages, breeds and energy levels. With staff and volunteers available to help potential new pet parents, potential new pet parents can take the time to find just the right match.
On Saturday, October 25th, from 10am-12pm, the shelter will also be hosting Barktoberfest at National Adoption Week with candy, crafts, and prizes. Adoptable pets will be dressed in their Halloween best, and the shelter encourages adopters to do the same!
Adopting pets can help improve the health and wellness of people with their special brand of unconditional love. Pets get their people off the couch and make ideal colleagues for remote workers. Caring for pets fosters values for children such as responsibility and selflessness.
“There’s nothing quite like the love of a pet. They have this incredible way of bringing laughter, comfort, and companionship into our lives. Our goal this week is to help 100 pets find their families, and thanks to PetSmart Charities®, we have this amazing opportunity to connect our community with animals who are just waiting for their second chance. Every adoption is a celebration, and we can’t wait to see all the happy matches made this week.” Says Amanda Paris, Director of Southern Pines Animal Shelter.

“Pets are family and bring so much joy and companionship to our lives,” said Heidi Marston, director of Pet Placement Initiatives at PetSmart Charities. “But adopting a pet not only adds benefits to your own life; it’s also a gift to your community. Making room in your heart and home for a pet frees up room for another pet to enter the shelter, so you’re really saving two lives — while also supporting the animal welfare professionals that care for so many lost and lonely pets. We’re proud to work alongside partners such as Southern Pines Animal Shelter, to make meaningful connections, giving more pets in need people to love.”
