After picking up two top 25 wins, Southern Miss has moved up in the latest baseball polls.
Southern Miss (9-3) went 2-2 this past week after dropping a midweek game to ranked Ole Miss and then winning a weekend series over No. 25 TCU. USM is now 3-2 against top 25 opponents.
The Golden Eagles moved from No. 22 to No. 20 in the D1baseball.com rankings. Southern Miss also entered the Baseball America poll at No. 24, while Perfect Game ranked the Golden Eagles at No. 25.
Ole Miss moved from No. 24 to No. 17. In the Sun Belt Conference, Troy (11-1) moved from No. 21 to No. 19, while Coastal Carolina (10-2) enters the rankings for the first time this season at No. 24. Future midweek opponent, Alabama (12-0) also moved into the polls at No. 23. Notably, TCU has fallen out of the rankings.
Southern Miss will travel and face Mississippi State on Tuesday, which fell out of the polls this week. Then, USM will host UNC-Wilmington for its weekend series.
Mississippi State (7-4) went 1-3 this week after losing to Troy in the midweek, and then falling to Oklahoma State and Arizona in the Astros Foundation College Classic. The Bulldogs’ lone win came against Rice. UNCW (7-5) went 2-2 this past week, falling to Coastal Carolina in the midweek contest and winning a series against Liberty.
First pitch for Southern Miss’ midweek matchup against Mississippi State is set for 4 p.m.
