After a 4-0 week that included a signature win over a top-15 opponent, Southern Miss baseball has surged in the latest national polls, continuing to build early-season momentum.
The Golden Eagles (6-1) opened the week with a 3-1 midweek win over Southeastern Louisiana before traveling to Round Rock, Texas and sweeping the 2026 Round Rock Classic. Southern Miss earned wins over Purdue, previously No. 11 Oregon State and Baylor, navigating a tournament field that featured three Power Five programs.
The performance did not go unnoticed nationally.
Southern Miss climbed eight spots in the latest D1Baseball rankings, rising from No. 20 to No. 12. The Golden Eagles also jumped three spots in the Baseball America poll, moving from No. 21 to No. 18, and cracked the top 10 in the Perfect Game rankings at No. 10 overall. In the newly released Athletic poll, Southern Miss made one of the biggest leaps of the week, climbing nine spots from No. 24 to No. 15.
The Golden Eagles were also ranked No. 1 in the mid-major rankings by the 11.7 College Baseball Podcast, though that is an unofficial poll.
Southern Miss baseball looks ahead to another set of challenging upcoming games. The Golden Eagles will host Alabama (7-1), who’s just on the outside looking in with the major polls, on Tueday night at Pete Taylor Park.
Then, the team will head back on the road for a three-game series tilt with Louisiana Tech (7-1) in Ruston, Louisiana.
The challenging upcoming stretch will continue next Tuesday at Pete Taylor Park when Southern Miss hosts top-five ranked Mississippi State in what is expected to be one of the most anticipated midweek matchups of the early season.
Within the Sun Belt Conference, Coastal Carolina remains the only other league team currently ranked nationally. The Chanticleers sit No. 9 in D1Baseball, No. 11 in The Athletic poll, No. 18 in Perfect Game and No. 16 in Baseball America, respectively.
First pitch between Alabama and Southern Miss is slated for 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
