WHO: Local American Heart Association volunteers, as well as heart disease and stroke survivors will participate. This year’s Pine Belt Heart Walk is sponsored by Forrest General Hospital.
WHAT: The American Heart Association and more than 300 community members will walk at the Pine Belt Heart Walk. The event is family friendly.
WHERE: Pine Belt Heart Walk will take place on Saturday, November 16 at William Carey University, 710 William Carey Parkway, Hattiesburg. Registration is at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 10 a.m.
WHY: Nine out of ten people who suffer cardiac arrest outside of the hospital die. In most of those cases, bystander CPR was not performed. That is why the American Heart Association is broadening efforts to drive CPR education, awareness and community initiatives through the Heart Walk, the Association’s largest community facing initiative. Through fundraising, community education and corporate engagement, the Heart Walk aims to enhance CPR training accessibility, bolster bystander preparedness, increase funding for vital research, and save and improve lives from cardiovascular diseases, the number one killer in the country.
HOW: Participants can register for the Heart Walk at Pine Belt Heart Walk. From there, they can create a fundraising page, download the Heart Walk mobile app, and invite family and friends to participate.
MORE: The Heart Walk honors heart and stroke survivors. By participating and donating to the Pine Belt Heart Walk, participants are supporting the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association and safeguarding that fewer people die from stroke and heart disease. Every walker who joins, every dollar donated, means more people trained in lifesaving CPR, more research, and more lifesaving moments for everyone. I walk to save lives. You can too.
