The Pine Belt News recognizes the 2026 class of 20 Under 40. Read about Kelsey Mathis here and see the special section publishing on January 29 to read about all of this year's honorees.
Kelsey Mathis began her career in healthcare as a receptionist at a small family clinic while she was in college. After graduation she joined Hattiesburg clinic where she earned 3 promotions over 11 years, gaining valuable experience in multiple departments. Kelsey tells us, “During my 11 years there, I worked across multiple departments and earned three promotions, advancing through roles in Patient Accounts, Patient Accounts Management, and Contracts Review/Refunds. These experiences allowed me to build a strong foundation in healthcare operations, contracts, compliance, and leadership.”
After two years with Forrest Health, Kelsey was promoted to Corporate Compliance Officer and Director of Compliance and Audit Services. She shares, “Having now served as Compliance Officer for nearly a year, I can clearly see how each position over the past 18 years has intentionally prepared me for the responsibility. Every role contributed to my development and shaped the professional I am today.”
Kelsey says, “My approach to leadership is deeply shaped by my family values – integrity, respect for others, and a strong sense of responsibility. I believe in leading by example, listening first, and staying grounded, even in challenging situations. I’m motivated by personal growth and by the opportunity to contribute in ways that positively impact my community and those around me.”
When asked what her biggest career success has been, Kelsey answers, “Becoming the second Compliance Officer in Forrest Health history. I was lucky to be mentored by the prior Compliance Officer after his 31 years of service. He set the bar high, and I’m thankful to have the opportunity to follow in his footsteps.” Kelsey would tell her 18-year-old self, “take the risk and go for it!” A fun fact about Kelsey is that she first flew in an airplane at 17 years old to dance in a bowl game in Hawaii.
