In a press release from the City of Hattiesburg, it was announced that a series of major upgrades have been completed thanks to a $300,000 grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission’s Building Fund for the Arts program. The latest projects to be completed have added a ceramics studio for pottery and handbuilding- complete with a new kiln and storage room, a new ADA-accessible ramp, a new HVAC system for the black box theater and renovated restrooms.
“These improvements allow us to do more and serve more people,” said the manager of the Community Arts Center, Katie Ginn. “We can now offer additional classes, better accommodate our guests and provide a more welcoming and accessible environment for everyone who comes through the doors.”
The completion of this project brings the total investment in the facility by the city to $819,000 through combinations of state grants and matching local dollars.
“By improving accessibility and expanding what this center can offer, we’re making sure more residents have the opportunity to learn, create and experience the arts here in Hattiesburg,” said Mayor Toby Barker.
